Since 1921, when the Lany became the summer residence of President Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, this place is indelibly linked with his personality and legacy. The first president of Czechoslovakia, he was very fond of Lany and further th Lany cemetery also became his final resting place.
The first shows the personality of TG Masaryk in Lany after 1989. In early 1990, members of the Civic Forum Lany affiliates managed jointly with the local Sokol Sokol Lany organize an exhibition dedicated to the memory of the first Czechoslovak president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk. In July 1998, Townsville District Museum (now the Museum of Townsville T.G.M.) created on site Classic “Exhibition Hall of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk,” where objects were used from the original Lany exhibition.
