Theatre Spejbl & Hurvínek was established as the first professional marionette stage of a new type by Professor Josef Skupa (1892-1957) in Pilsen in 1930. Its protagonists - Spejbl and Hurvínek - had been successfully acting already before at the amateur marionette stage in Pilsen in favourite cabaret programmes. The theatre was performing as a touring company with its domicile in Pilsen up to 1943.
