Horses have been a part of the emblem of Pardubice since the 12th century and have gone far beyond just that. In the first half of the 19th century, so-called “run with hounds” hunts were held in Pardubice – a stag chase with the help of horses and dogs, which were targeted with various barriers. From here, it was just a small step to steeplechase horse races and of course, the renowned Velka Pardubicka Steeplechase. Thanks to inspiration from England’s Grand Liverpool and inventions of its founders, a unique race was established, which was first held in 1874 and with several forced breaks it annually attracts the best horses, jockeys and horse lovers from around the whole world. You can meet horses in Pardubice even outside of the present day racing grounds. You can just about get to the centre of the city along a marked horse trail. You can use their dense network from the saddle of your very own horse, or rent a horse from one of the ranches, which are situated along the horse trails. There is much more proof that Pardubice is a city of horses, but the best thing to do is to come and see for your selves!
