The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Hejnice is a National Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic. Originally, the site was occupied by a small wooden chapel, which was gradually extended. The wooden Gothic-style statue of the Black Madonna from 1380 is the most valuable object.
The contemporary monumental building in the Roman style with a basilica ceiling was completed at the beginning of the twentieth century. Despite reconstructions, the parish church continued to decay. In addition, it was insufficient for the large parish. It was necessary to consider building a new one.
The Premonstratensian Monastery in Želiv is a national heritage site, a popular place of pilgrimage, and a traditional destination for both Czech and foreign tourists seeking a calm place for spiritual regeneration and physical relaxation. Just as in the past, even today the Monastery is a centre of spiritual life.
