Proudly rising on the upper part of the Square the Tower was built in the 2nd half of the 16th century. Around 1552 the tower was built as a part of the Town market and besides the sundial it has an astrological clock. Because of the green shingles on the roof the building used to be called "The Green Tower".  After a great fire in 1763 the reconstruction took place and the clock was embedded on the south side of the tower. Twenty years later a late-baroque extension was built over the tower. A torture chamber and the prison can be found in the basement of the building, where you can view a cage and a pillar of shame. In the late 19th century the statics of the tower was partly damaged and some breaches had appeared. Gradually, the axis diverted from vertical align in about 68 cm and nowadays the tower is known as "The Leaning Tower". The leaning itself was stopped in the 2nd half of the 20th century by the concrete injection. Gallery 20 m above the square provides beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding mountain tops as well as on the square and nearby streets.

We are pleased to inform you that The Clock Tower is opened to visitors and citizens of Banska Bystrica. A beautiful view from the tower is possible with a new installed binoculars. Newly reconstructed landmark is open for public according to the following schedule:
