Hulking on rocks above the Brno Dam and the Svratka River, the large Veveří Castle is situated on land belonging to the city of Brno (Brno-Bystrc part). Every summer, diverse cultural events and performances take place there. At the moment, the castle is being completely reconstructed.
You can get there by car, on foot, by taking marked trails, or by boat, along the Brno Dam. Besides that, you can take bus no. 303 and get off at the bus stop “Hrad Veveří” (Veveří Castle). The bus departs from Veverská Bítýška or the Brno ZOO. The bus station is not far from the tram stop (tram no. 1 from the main railway station in Brno or trams no. 3 and 11 from downtown).
If you choose to take the steamboat, get off at the “Hrad Veveří” station, then follow the road for 1 km and you will find yourselves at the “Hrad Veveří” bus stop mentioned above.
If you prefer a longer walk, start in Veverská Bítýška and walk approximately 3 km along the Brno Dam. Or, for an even more beautiful 11km walk, follow the red marked trail from Brno along the Brno Dam; it is suitable both for tourists on foot and cyclists, except for the last segment where cyclists have to walk.
