Although the landscape below the mountain range of Krušné hory has been radically altered and several local settlements ceased to exist, we still very much admire the ingenious setting of the chateau; its architects could not possibly have found a better place for it. However, it is not only its character of a dominant landscape feature that is so impressive about the chateau. It has also played an important role in the history of this region.
What is today a baroque building used to be a renaissance chateau, and before that there was a Gothic castle here. We could go even further back in time to study the Slavonic rule over the area. Before the Slavs there were the Celts, who had their oppidum and shrines on the slopes on the edge of the mountain range. Today the chateau of Jezeříis an exquisite part of the cultural heritage, special not only for its great artistic and architectural value, but also its moving history, its beautiful location and its significance for current and future development and life in the area of the base of the mountains of Krušné hory.
