The castle is one of oldest fortresses in Czech country of unknown origin. Originally it was called Klepy or Klapy and it was only a stone fortress with the defensive functions. To the form of the castle was rebuilt probably by Lords of Lichtenburg around the 1300. Later it had to get into the royal possessions, because the first written report is dated from the year 1335, when King John of Luxembourg sold the castle to Lord Zbynek Zajic of Valdek. In 1336 bartered Zbynek Zajic his Zebrák family estate for the royal estate Budyne with surrounding manor and decided to build there his new family residence - Castle Klapy, which was significantly rebuilt and expanded and later renamed as the Hasenburg (that means Zajic´s, in English Hare´s castle). Lords of Hasenburg according to the current medieval manners modified their coat of arms. At the end of the 16th century the castle became uncomfortable and the owners relocated to the Budyne castle. In 1558 was the castle described as empty and gradually ruined. In 1994 there were large redevelopment works performed.
