Fata Morgana, the tropical greenhouse is a modern construction with unusual “S” shaped ground plan which is embedded into the slope, which allows for terraced planting of displayed vegetation. The greenshouse expositions cover approximately 1750 square metres.
The interior of the greenhouse is divided into three sections with different temperature and humidity. The plants are arranged by their geographical origin with the aim to create the appearance of natural plant formations.
Xeric vegetation of arid (dry) regions of the tropics and subtropics are on display in the first section. Australian bush, unique flora of Madagascar, xerophilous vegetation from South Mexico and some regions of Africa can be seen there.
The central section is the largest and shows a lowland tropical rainforest. Before entering the section, you can walk through a large freshwater lake introducing fish and plants from the Old and the New World.
Major part of the rainforest section hosts plant associations of South America and selected regions of Central America, other parts present the flora of Australia and Oceania, Africa and Madagascar, Vietnam and the Philippines.
The last, cooled section presents the harsh environment of high mountains. Examples of the flora of South American Andes and alpine regions of both mainland and island Asia and subtropical South Africa are displayed here. The central part of this exposition is dedicated to rare vegetation of table-top mountains of Venezuela.
